MLL Announces Week 8 Awards

BOSTON, Mass. – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending July 17, 2011, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman Danny Glading was named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week while Long Island Lizards goalkeeper Drew Adams earned the MLL Defensive Player of the Week award.

In addition, Rochester Rattlers goalkeeper John Galloway was selected as the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week.

Glading helped the Bayhawks move into a tie for second place in the MLL standings with a 12-11 overtime victory over the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday night at Ron Joyce Stadium. He scored two goals with two assists as the Bayhawks improved to 5-3 on the season.

Glading gave the Bayhawks a 2-1 lead early in the first quarter with an unassisted goal before scoring in the third quarter to give Chesapeake a 10-8 advantage.

Glading is the Bayhawks’ leading scorer with 15 goals and 11 assists. He ranks sixth in the MLL with 26 points in eight games.

Meanwhile, Adams helped the Lizards prevent the Boston Cannons from earning a berth in Sports Authority MLL Championship Weekend with a 12-11 victory at Shuart Stadium on Saturday night. He made a career-high 24 saves, including 12 in the second half, while helping the Lizards snap Boston’s five-game win streak.

Adams, who leads the MLL in minutes played (468:32) and saves (117), ranks fourth in the MLL with a 12.68 goals against average and a .542 save percentage.

Galloway led the Rattlers to their first win of the season with a 9-8 victory over the Denver Outlaws on Saturday night at INVESCO Field at Mile High, snapping the Rattlers’ seven-game losing streak. He made a season-high 19 saves while allowing a season-low eight goals. Galloway made six saves in the second quarter while limiting Denver to one goal as the Rattlers built a 4-3 lead at the intermission.

Galloway, who has appeared in six games this season, has posted a 14.45 goals against average while stopping 51.2 per cent of the shots he has faced.

The MLL season continues this weekend with three very important games. The Cannons can clinch a play-off berth with a victory over the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday night while Chesapeake will host Long Island. Meanwhile, the Outlaws face the Rattlers for the second straight week at Sahlen’s Stadium on Saturday night.
