ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Attackman Ned Crotty scored all four of his goals in the first half as the Rochester Rattlers (2-7) jumped out to a commanding 9-3 lead en route to their second straight win, a 15-8 Major League Lacrosse victory over the Denver Outlaws (5-4) in front of 5,107 fans at Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday night.
After starting the season with seven straight losses, the Rattlers have beaten the Outlaws in back-to-back weeks and have held Denver to just eight points in each game. Rochester edged Denver by a 9-8 margin last week at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
Following a goal by Denver midfielder Max Seibald, the Rattlers used three straight goals, including a two-point goal on a power play from rookie attackman Grant Catalino, to take a 4-1 lead with 3:25 left in the first quarter.
The teams traded goals in the final 68 seconds of the opening stanza, giving Rochester a 5-2 lead.
Led by a goal with an assist from attackman Brett Garber, the Rattlers expanded their lead to 8-2 with 5:22 left in the first half. The teams exchanged goals in the final four minutes to give the Rattlers a 9-3 cushion at the intermission.
After attackman Drew Westervelt scored to cut the Outlaws' deficit to 9-4, the Rattlers scored three of the next four goals, including another two-point goal from Catalino, to give Rochester a 13-5 lead with 1:41 left in the third quarter.
Westervelt scored off a feed from attackman Terry Kimener with 34 seconds left in the third quarter to cut the margin to 13-6.
Midfielder Anthony Kelly responded for the Rattlers by scoring off the opening face-off to start the fourth quarter, but the Outlaws answered with a pair of goals from Seibald and midfielder Brian Langtry to trim the deficit to 14-8.
But, midfielder Martin Cahill sealed the victory by scoring off a feed from midfielder Matt Striebel with 8:47 left.
While Crotty led the Rattlers with his four goals and two assists, Catalino scored three goals, including a pair of two-point goals, with an assist for the Rattlers, who were outshot by a 38-34 margin.
