Final Stats (HTML)

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Attackman Brendan Mundorf scored five goals and added three assists as the Denver Outlaws (7-5) secured the second seed in the 2011 Sports Authority Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend with a convincing 15-9 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks (6-6) in front of 8,517 fans at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.

With the victory, the Outlaws will face the Hamilton Nationals in the second semi-final game on August 27 at 3 p.m. while the Bayhawks earned the fourth seed and will play against the Boston Cannons at 12 p.m. in the first semi-final.

After the teams traded goals in the opening four minutes of the first quarter, the Outlaws used a commanding 12-goal run to take a 13-1 advantage with 14:15 remaining in the third quarter. Mundorf scored four of his five goals and contributed a pair of assists during the run while attackman Drew Westervelt added a pair of goals.

With 11:07 remaining in the third quarter, attackman Ben Rubeor ended a nearly 31-minute scoring drought for the Bayhawks when he scored off a feed from midfielder Dan Hardy.

After midfielder Peet Poillon scored an unassisted marker to give Denver a 14-2 lead, the Bayhawks put together a six-point run to close the margin to 14-8 with 8:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. Attackman Danny Glading scored a pair of goals during the run while midfielder Kyle Dixon added a two-point goal.

The teams traded goals in the final five minutes as Denver earned its second straight win.

While Mundorf led the Outlaws with his eight-point effort to earn Bud Light Player of the Game honors, Poillon and rookie attackman Billy Bitter each added two goals with an assist.

Glading led the Bayhawks in a losing effort by scoring three goals while Dixon contributed two goals, including the 32nd two-point goal of his career. He finished the season needing just one two-point goal to tie the MLL career record, which is held by Roy Colsey.

Goalkeeper Brian Phipps made 19 saves for the Bayhawks, who ended the regular season with three losses in their final four games.

With the victory, the Outlaws avenged a 16-15 overtime setback against the Bayhawks on June 11 at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
