Boston Cannons Midfielder Paul Rabil Renews Contract for 2012 MLL Season
BOSTON, Mass. (February 8, 2012) - Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Boston Cannons Midfielder Paul Rabil has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season.
Rabil is one of the league’s most recognized and established players. In 2011 he was named Bud Light MLL Season MVP and Warrior Offensive Player of the Year. He also won both awards in 2009. Rabil also played an integral role in the Cannons first championship in 2011.
Since joining the league as the first overall selection in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, the former Johns Hopkins University midfielder has scored 106 goals, including 21 two-point goals, and had 46 assists in 42 games. Last season he had 28 goals, including four two-point goals, on 127 shots to lead the Cannons in points in 2011 and tie for the MLL lead. He tallied at least two points in every game and had two or more goals in 9 out of 11 games, with six multi-assist games.
In addition to his impressive work on the field, Rabil also launched The Paul Rabil Foundation (PRF) in 2011. The PRF is committed to helping children across the country, especially those with learning differences, realize their full potential by supporting programs and partnerships that advance their lives and opportunities through sports.
“I grew up with learning differences and know many people that I am close with that deal with similar deficiencies, on many different levels, that continue to fight to overcome these challenges each day. What I've learned that hit home for me, is that dyslexia is often referred to as a "hidden disability". Over 40 million children and adults in the United States have some form of dyslexia. In almost 100% of the cases, you would never have known. The learning differences that many children face are in the classroom, and can be very damaging to confidence, reputation and future goal setting. I want to positively affect those that face these challenges by giving them the opportunity to succeed through sports, or financially with the opportunity to go to school in an environment that fits their specific needs,” says Rabil.
In addition to its many fundraising initiatives, the PRF grants a scholarship every year to The Lab School of Washington & Baltimore. The Lab School has been providing children with college preparatory academic experience for over 40 years. It helps position children with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences into avenues of choice where they are most likely to succeed.
