Cahill, Crowley, McGlone, Poskay and other Key Players
Renew Contracts for 2012 MLL Season
Boston, MA (February 8, 2012) - Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the signing of several key players this week for the 2012 MLL season, including Martin Cahill of the Rochester Rattlers, Kevin Crowley of the Hamilton Nationals, Bill McGlone of the Boston Cannons, and Matt Poskay of the Boston Cannons. The 2012 MLL season will begin on Saturday, April 28 with six of the league’s eight teams facing-off.
Defenseman Matt Bocklet renewed his contract with the league and will play for the Denver Outlaws in his fourth consecutive season with the team (his fifth season with the league). Bocklet finished with 47 ground balls last year while adding 1 goal and 5 assists. He was named to his second MLL All-Star Team last year. Bocklet has 196 career ground balls and 21 points.
Rochester Rattlers midfielder Martin Cahill has also re-signed with the league for the 2012 season. He will enter his third season with the league, his second with the Rattlers. Cahill finished last season with 18 points (16 goals, 2 assists). Last year he was named to his first MLL All-Star Team.
Midfielder Kevin Crowley, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft, will return for his sophomore campaign this year. He joins the Hamilton Nationals for a second year after finishing with 20 points (14 goals, 6 assists) last season. He was named the MLL Cascade Rookie of the Week on July 5 after his four-goal performance against the Long Island Lizards.
Midfielder Dan Hardy will enter his fourth year with the league and his first season with the Rochester Rattlers. Last year Hardy played for the Chesapeake Bayhawks and finished with 6 goals, 6 assists and 8 ground balls.
Defenseman Parker McKee also signed a one-year contract with the league and will play for the Long Island Lizards this year. McKee is entering his third season with the league and also with the Lizards. He played in nine games last season and scooped 25 ground balls and added two assists.
Bill McGlone re-signed with the league and will play for the Boston Cannons this year after being drafted by the 2011 MLL Champions team in the 2012 Expansion Draft. McGlone will enter his seventh season with the league. In seven games with the Denver Outlaws last season, the midfielder totaled 9 goals and 7 assists, while scooping 3 ground balls. He was tied for fourth in points last season with the Outlaws.
Boston Cannons attackman Matt Poskay also signed a one-year contract for the 2012 MLL season. Poskay will enter his seventh season with the league and with the Cannons. In 2010, he was named the Warrior MLL Offensive Player of the Year and the Bud Light MLL MVP of the Year after tallying 52 points (45 goals, 6 assists). Last season he played an integral role in leading the Cannons to their first-ever MLL Championship with 37 points (30 goals, 7 assists). He finished seventh in scoring during the 2011 season.
Other notable players who have signed contracts for the 2012 MLL season include Pete Vlahakis of the Denver Outlaws, Mitch Belisle of the Boston Cannons, Brian Phipps of the Ohio Machine, and Steven Waldeck of the Hamilton Nationals.
Player contracts for the 2012 Major League Lacrosse season are due by Thursday, March 1, 2012.
