Key Players Renew Contracts for the 2012 MLL Season
BOSTON, Mass. (Tuesday, February 14, 2012)– Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Tuesday the signing of several key players for the 2012 MLL season including Boston Cannons Defenseman Mitch Belisle, Boston Cannons Attackman Kevin Buchanan, Chesapeake Bayhawks Goaltender Kip Turner, and Long Island Lizards Face-off Specialist Greg Gurenlian.
Boston Cannons Defenseman Mitch Belisle has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The Cornell alumnus is entering his fourth year with the Cannons, his sixth with the league. Belisle played a key role in leading the Cannons to their first-ever MLL Championship title. Last season he recorded 18 ground balls in 10 games, and named as the Cannons’ Defensive Player of the Year. He has played in 54 career MLL games and has recorded 74 career ground balls. He has been an MLL All-Star and was named to last year’s Great Atlantic All-MLL Team.
Boston Cannons Attackman Kevin Buchanan also renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The Ohio State University alumnus is entering his third year with the Cannons, his fifth year with the league. Buchanan also played an integral role in the Cannons’ 2011 MLL Championship victory. Last season he recorded 26 points (20 goals [one two-pointer] and 5 assists) in nine regular season games. Buchanan has played in 36 career MLL games and has tallied 85 career points (55 goals and 27 assists). He has also been an MLL All-Star.
Chesapeake Bayhawks Goalie Kip Turner has renewed his contract with MLL for this season. The University of Virginia alumnus is entering his first year with the Bayhawks, his sixth year with the league. Turner was named the 2010 MLL Warrior Goalie of the Year after recording 176 saves during the regular season. He appeared in three games for the Cannons last season and was picked up by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the 2012 MLL Expansion Draft in the seventh round (13th overall selection). Turner has played in 37 career MLL games with 469 career saves.
Long Island Lizards Face-off Specialist Greg Gurenlian has also renewed his contract with the league for the 2012 MLL season. The Penn State alumnus is entering his third year with the Lizards, his sixth with the league. Gurenlian played in three games with the Lizards last season before tearing his ACL. He has played in 46 career MLL games and has won 567 of 1091 career face-offs.
