Lizards Acquire Attackman Grant Catalino from Rochester Rattlers
BOSTON, Mass. (Friday, February 17, 2012) – The Long Island Lizards and Rochester Rattlers announced Friday a trade that sent Rattlers attackman Grant Catalino to the Lizards in exchange for the second round pick in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft. He will enter his second season with the league this year.
Catalino was selected with the 21st pick of the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft and played in eight games in his rookie season for the Rattlers. He finished with 17 goals (4 two-pointers) and two assists, totaling 23 points. The four, two-point goals tied him for third in the league last season in two-point t goals, behind Long Island Lizard Stephen Peyser and in company with players like Paul Rabil, Kyle Dixon and Matt Striebel.
Last season, Catalino tied a MLL record by scoring 9 goals in one game against the Hamilton Nationals. He currently holds that record along with former Long Island Lizard Tim Goettelmann. Catalino was named the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week last season on June 26, 2011 for this performance, which was only his second career game. He was the first player in five years to score nine goals in one game.
The former University of Maryland standout was drafted by the Denver Outlaws in the fourth round of the MLL Collegiate Draft, but was acquired by the Rattlers in a trade. He ranks seventh in Maryland men’s lacrosse history with 119 goals and helped the Terrapins reach the NCAA Championship Game for the first time since 1998.
