Key Players Renew Contracts for 2012 MLL Season
BOSTON, Mass. (Wednesday, February 22, 2012)– Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced Wednesday the signing of several key players for the 2012 season. They include Long Island Lizards attackman Grant Catalino, Boston Cannons face-off specialist Chris Eck, Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman Danny Glading, Hamilton Nationals midfielder Jordan Hall, Ohio Machine attackman Connor Martin and Charlotte Hounds midfielder Doug Shanahan.
Long Island Lizards attackman Grant Catalino has renewed his contract and will enter his first season with the Lizards, his second season with the league. The University of Maryland alumnus was selected with the 21st pick of the 2011 MLL Collegiate Draft and played in eight games in his rookie season for the Rattlers. He finished with 17 goals (4 two-pointers) and two assists, totaling 23 points. The 4 two-point goals tied him for third in the league last season in two-point goals. Last season, Catalino tied a MLL record by scoring 9 goals in one game against the Hamilton Nationals. He currently holds that record along with former Long Island Lizard Tim Goettelmann.
Boston Cannons face-off specialist Chris Eck has renewed his contract for 2012 and will enter his fifth season with both the Cannons and the league. The Colgate alumnus was a fourth round selection (38th overall) by the Cannons in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft. Last season he led MLL with a .595 face-off win percentage while ranking second in the league with 156 face-off wins. He posted the fifth-highest single-season face-off win percentage while helping the Boston Cannons to their third MLL regular season title. With 51 ground balls, Eck was tied for fifth in the MLL. He was named to the 2011 Great Atlantic All-MLL Team and to his second MLL All-Star game. In his fourth MLL season, Eck won 553 of 990 face-offs (.559) in his career and tallied 186 ground balls with six goals and four assists.
Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman Danny Glading has renewed his contract for 2012. The University of Virginia alumnus was a first round selection (5th overall) by the Bayhawks in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft. Glading is entering his fourth season with both the Bayhawks and the league. Last season Glading played in all 12 regular season games with the Bayhawks and led the team with points, goals and assists. He tallied 38 points (23 goals, 15 assists). He finished fifth in the league with goals last season and is a two-time MLL All-Star.
Hamilton Nationals midfielder Jordan Hall also renewed his contract for the 2012 season. The Delaware alumnus was a second round selection (11th overall) by the Chicago Machine in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. He is entering his fourth season with the Nationals, his sixth season with the league. The midfielder played in 11 regular season games with the Nationals last season and tallied 23 points (14 goals, 9 assists). Hall played for the Young Guns in the 2009 MLL All-Star Game.
Ohio Machine attackman and entertainer Connor Martin has renewed his contract for 2012. The Chapman University alumnus was the seventh round selection (41st overall) by the Denver Outlaws in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft. Martin is entering his first season with the expansion Machine, his third season with the league. Last season Martin played in five games for the Outlaws and tallied 13 points (10 goals, 3 assists).
Charlotte Hounds midfielder Doug Shanahan has also renewed his contract for the 2012 season. The Hofstra University alumnus joined the league in 2003, playing in all 12 regular season games for the Bridgeport Barrage. He is entering his first season with the expansion Hounds, his ninth season with the league. Shanahan has played for the Barrage and the Chicago Machine. He has played in 81 career regular season games and has tallied 133 points (91 goals, eight 2-pointers, 30 assists). Shanahan is a three-time MLL All-Star.
