Key Players Renew Contracts for 2012 Season

BOSTON, Mass. (Thursday, February 23, 2012) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday the signing of several key players for the 2012 MLL season. They include Boston Cannons midfielder Pat Heim, Chesapeake Bayhawks midfielder Ben Hunt, Long Island Lizards defenseman Chris Passavia, Hamilton Nationals defenseman Steven Waldeck, Ohio Machine attackman Chazz Woodson, and Denver Outlaws defenseman Lee Zink.

Boston Cannons midfielder Pat Heim has renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The Penn State alumnus was the first overall selection by the Chicago Machine in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft and is entering his third season with the Cannons, his fifth season with the league. Last season, Heim tallied 13 points (9 goals, 4 assists) and assisted the Cannons in winning their first-ever Steinfeld Trophy. Heim is a two-time MLL All-Star.

Chesapeake Bayhawks midfielder Ben Hunt also renewed his contract for the 2012 MLL season. The North Carolina alumnus was a fourth round selection by the Bayhawks (28th overall) in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft and is entering his fourth season with the team. Last season, Hunt played in all 12 regular season games with the Bayhawks and finished third on the team in points with 25 (18 goals, two 2-pointers, 5 assists). He finished second on the team in 2-point goals and picked up 12 ground balls. He was named to his first MLL All-Star team last season.

Long Island Lizards defenseman Chris Passavia renewed his contract for 2012. The Maryland alumnus was a first round selection (6th overall) by the Boston Cannons in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft and is entering his first season with the Lizards, his eighth season with the league. Passavia has played in 77 career MLL regular season games and has been to the MLL playoffs three times with the Cannons (2006, 2009 and 2010). He has picked up 207 ground balls and is a four-time MLL All-Star.

Hamilton Nationals defenseman Steven Waldeck has also signed a contract with the league for the 2012 season. The Stony Brook alumnus was a third round selection (17th overall) by the Nationals and will enter his third season with the team. Last season, Waldeck played in all 12 regular season games for the Nationals and finished third on the team in ground balls with 36. He also played in both 2011 MLL playoff games.

Ohio Machine attackman Chazz Woodson has renewed his contract for the upcoming season. The Brown University alumnus was a fourth round selection (20th overall) in the 2005 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Long Island Lizards. He is entering his first season with the expansion Machine, his seventh season with the league. Woodson was the first overall selection in the 2012 MLL Expansion Draft by the Machine. The attackman is an MLL All-Star and has played in 47 career games and has played in five MLL playoff games (2006, 2007 and 2008). Woodson has tallied 88 career regular season points (63 goals, 25 assists) and picked up 66 ground balls.

Denver Outlaws defenseman Lee Zink has also renewed his contract for the upcoming season. The Maryland alumnus was a first round selection (5th overall) by the Bayhawks in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft and is entering his seventh season with the Outlaws, his ninth season with the league. Last season, Zink played in ten regular season games for the Outlaws and finished fourth on the team in ground balls with 28. Zink is a five-time MLL All-Star and has played in seven MLL playoff games and four MLL Championship games.
