Final Stats (HTML)

BOSTON, Mass. - Attackman Brendan Mundorf scored three goals and added four assists as the Denver Outlaws edged the Boston Cannons at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass. on Thursday evening. Jesse Schwartzman, who was named the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game, anchored the team's defense with 17 saves. Mundorf, Jordan McBride and Drew Snider all netted hat tricks for the Outlaws.

Attackman Chris Bocklet put Denver on the board in the first five minutes of the game before Cannons attackman Matt Poskay answered 16 seconds later with an unassisted goal, his first of two on the night including his 200th career goal.

After a slow start, Mundorf gave the Outlaws their second lead of the night with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Cannons answered again, this time with an unassisted goal by attackman Ari Sussman, who also netted a hat trick, with under a minute remaining in the quarter.

Midfielder Pat Heim saw his third goal of the season early in the second quarter to give the Cannons their first and only lead of the night. The Outlaws scored three straight goals including two from McBride and two from attackman Jeremy Sieverts; one of which was a two-point marker.

Ryan Boyle scored for the Cannons two minutes into the second half to close the margin by one goal. Both teams exchanged goals in the third quarter; each team scoring five goals. Drew Snider and Peet Poillon both tallied two goals while Brendan Mundorf completed a hat trick for the Outlaws. Boyle scored a pair of goals for Boston while Paul Rabil netted his first goal since the Cannons played the Hamilton Nationals on July 7. Defensive midfielder JJ Morrissey scored his second goal of the season.

To cut the Denver advantage to 13-11, Rabil scored an unassisted goal a minute and a half into the fourth quarter. After trading goals, Outlaws rookie Mark Matthews scored back-to-back goals to give the team a five goal lead with 1:43 in the game. Kevin Buchanan scored with 40 seconds in the game but the Cannons were unable to get any closer.

Sussman and Boyle led the Cannons in a losing effort, each with 4 points.

Nothing was decided for either team Thursday evening in the run to the MLL Championship Weekend.  To date, no team has clinched a spot or been eliminated from playoff contention.
