Striebel Has Record Game in Rattlers 14-5 Win Over Hounds

Final Stats (HTML)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Midfielder Matt Striebel scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Rochester Rattlers in a 14-5 victory over the Charlotte Hounds at Sahlen’s Stadium on Friday night.

Striebel competed in his 133 career game and became the league’s all-time leader in games played in a performance that earned him Bud Light Player of the Game honors. The previous record was held by Tim Goettelmann, who retired after the 2011 season with 132 career games.

The Rattlers struck first with an unassisted goal by Kevin Leveille and a rocket by Striebel from Roy Lang. The Hounds closed the lead with goals by Matt Danowski and Brian Carroll to tie the score in a slow first quarter.

Rochester took the lead again in the second quarter with four straight goals, including a pair of unassisted markers by Roy Lang, who saw a career high four points on Friday. Stephen Berger narrowed the margin to 6-3 with a long distance goal just shy of the two-point arc to close out the first half.

In the second half, the Hounds looked to gain momentum as Billy Bitter netted a goal from Danowski, but it was no match for the Rattlers’ explosive scoring in the third quarter which included a powerplay goal by Striebel and a pair of goals by Ned Crotty. Hounds midfielder Brian Carroll broke a four goal run before the Rattlers added two more to close out the quarter, outscoring the Hounds 6-2.

Rochester extended their lead with two goals by Steven Boyle and Steve DeNapoli in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Both teams remained scoreless for the duration of the period, resulting in a victory for the Rattlers.

Stephen Berger led the Hounds in a losing effort with a goal and two assists.

Even with a victory Friday evening, the Rattlers did not have an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot in Week 11. The Hounds’ loss could eliminate them from playoff contention if the Long Island Lizards win this Saturday against the Hamilton Nationals.
