HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Attackman Tommy Palasek scored a season-high six goals, including four in the second half, as the Long Island Lizards overcame an early two-goal deficit to hand the Hamilton Nationals a 19-12 defeat at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday night.

The loss eliminated the Nationals from postseason consideration while enabling the Lizards to remain in third place in the MLL standings.

After Hamilton took a quick 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by midfielder Stephen Keogh, the Lizards answered with back-to-back goals from midfielders Tim Henderson and Albert Maione to tie the game at 2-2 with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

But, the Nationals answered by scoring three consecutive goals, including a pair of markers from midfielder David Earl, to regain the advantage at 5-2 with 12:19 left in the first half.

Led by a pair of two-point markers from midfielder Stephen Peyser, the Lizards tallied five of the next six goals to take a 9-6 lead with 2:49 remaining.

The teams traded goals to end the first half, giving Long Island a 10-7 advantage at the intermission.

After the teams traded goals to open the second half, Palasek upped the Long Island lead to 13-8 by scoring a pair of goals. The Nationals used back-to-back goals from midfielder Joe Walters and attackman Joe Resetarits to trim the deficit to 13-10 before Long Island ended the period with a pair of goals from defenseman CJ Costabile and Palasek.

The Lizards put the game out of reach by scoring four straight goals to begin the fourth quarter, upping their lead to 19-10. Midfielder Will Mangan scored twice during the run.

Despite a pair of goals from Earl and defenseman Brodie Merrill, the Nationals were unable to get any closer.

Palasek, who earned Bud Light MLL Player of the Game honors, led the Lizards with his seven-point effort while Peyser added a "hat trick" that included a pair of two-point markers. Attackman Max Seibald contributed two goals with three assists in the victory.

Earl led Hamilton with four goals in a losing effort while Keogh contributed three goals.
