HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Midfielder Brian Langtry scored two of his game-high three goals in the second half as the Long Island Lizards overcame a one-goal halftime deficit to edge the Charlotte Hounds by a 13-9 margin at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday evening.
Langtry, who was named as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game, tallied both of his second-half goals in the third quarter to ignite the Lizards' comeback.
After the Hounds sprinted out to a quick 3-0 lead in the game's first five minutes, the Lizards answered with back-to-back markers from Langtry and rookie attackman Matt Gibson to narrow the margin to 3-2 with 4:33 remaining in the opening stanza.
But, the Hounds answered with 28 seconds left in the period as attackman Eric Lusby converted a feed from midfielder Stephen Berger to extend the advantage to 4-2.
Charlotte upped its cushion to 6-2 in the first 90 seconds of the second quarter with a pair of goals from Berger and defenseman Ricky Pages. But, the Lizards answered by scoring four of the next five goals to trim the margin to 7-6 at the intermission.
After midfielder Brian Carroll gave Charlotte an 8-6 advantage just 43 seconds into the third quarter, Langtry sparked a five-goal run by the Lizards with back-to-back goals just 52 seconds apart in the closing minutes of the third quarter.
