Hounds Edge Machine for First Franchise Win

March 17, 2016
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Midfielder Josh Amidon scored three goals, including a two-point marker, and added two assists as the Charlotte Hounds (1-2) earned the first win in franchise history with an 18-15 Major League Lacrosse victory over the Ohio Machine (0-2) in front of 4,782 fans at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday evening.

In a battle of the League's two newest teams, the Hounds used a late four-goal run to defeat the Machine.

Led by a goal and an assist from midfielder Brett Garber, the Machine jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 7:30 of the first quarter. However, the Hounds answered with a three-goal run of their own in a 51-second span to even the score at 3-3 with 6:06 left in the stanza.

After the teams traded goals twice, the Hounds scored four consecutive goals to take a 9-5 lead on a goal by midfielder Brian Carroll with 1:58 left in the first half. But, the Machine answered with three consecutive goals, including a pair of goals from attackman Chazz Woodson, to close the margin to 9-8 early in the third quarter.

Amidon and midfielder Stephen Berger tallied back-to-back two-point goals before Carroll added a goal off an assist from Amidon for a 14-9 Charlotte advantage with 7:15 left in the period.

But, the Machine answered again by scoring five consecutive goals, including a pair of markers from attackman Connor Martin, to even the score at 14-14 with 9:54 left in regulation.

However, the Hounds secured the victory by scoring four goals over a four-minute span.

While Amidon led Charlotte with his six-point effort, Berger contributed two goals, including a two-point marker, with three assists. Attackman Matt Danowski scored twice with three assists for Charlotte, which was outshot by a 48-34 margin.

Woodson led the Machine with four goals while Martin contributed three goals.
