John Grant Jr. Announces Retirement from MLL

April 19, 2017
BOSTON (April 19, 2017) – The most prolific scorer in the history of Major League Lacrosse, John Grant Jr., announced today that he is retiring from the league after 13 seasons in MLL.

“Clearly this is something that’s been on my mind, but when your body tells you it’s time to call it quits, you listen,” Grant said. “My dream was to play at the highest level I could, for as long as I could and to be honest, I have long surpassed that and I’m extremely luck to play as long as I did.”

Grant walks away from MLL with the all-time records for goals (329), points (534) and game-winning goals (16). He set the record for goals in a single game when he scored 10 times on Aug. 8 against the Lizards last season. Grant also is tied with Mark Millon for the most points in a single MLL game (14).

“For over 27 years I got to play this game," Grant said. "I have so many great memories that I’ll have for the rest of my life, and I’ve met such incredible people along the way. But, I have a very special thank you to Columbus, my Machine teammates and coaching staff, who picked me up, gave me the opportunity to play for another title and made me a part of the Sheen family.”
