Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for week 5 of the 2013 season, which concluded on June 2. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. This week's Warrior Offensive Player of the Week went to Hamilton's Stephen Keogh, while Rochester's John Galloway took home the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. New York's Rob Pannell earned Cascade Rookie of the Week honors in his MLL debut.
Keogh found the back of the net five times to help lead the Hamilton Nationals past the Chesapeake Bayhawks in a 12-11 overtime win on Saturday night. The third season veteran demonstrated his superior abilities to finish around the net, highlighted by a between the legs, no-look completion. Capitalizing on five of his seven shots for a stellar .714 shooting percentage, the Player of the Game upped his season shooting percentage to .556. Keogh's handful of goals increased his season total to 10, good for second place in Hamilton's standings. On Saturday, June 08, at 8:00 p.m. (ET) Keogh and Hamilton will battle the Denver Outlaws in a feud of unbeatens. This game will be broadcast live on YouTube.
Galloway anchored the Rattlers' defense in a 9-7 victory over the Ohio Machine on Sunday evening. The goalie accumulated 16 saves to earn his second win of the season, and to keep Rochester fighting for fourth place in the standings. Against Ohio, Galloway collected eight saves per half and finished with a .438 save percentage. This season Galloway has stopped 44 shots en route to a .506 save percentage. Currently in his third year at Rochester, he has amassed 362 MLL career saves. Rochester next takes on the Boston Cannons in Kennesaw, GA on Friday, June 07, at 8:00 p.m. (ET). Pannell finished his NCAA career, brought home the Tewaaraton Award, and excelled in his first ever MLL game, all within a week. The rookie scored three tallies, added an assist, and scooped three ground balls in the Lizards 14-12 loss on Friday night. Pannell was the first overall draft pick in the 2012 Collegiate Draft. After a wildly successful Cornell career, the fifth-year senior ended his collegiate reign as the NCAA Division I all-time points leader , while grabbing the most prestigious award in college lacrosse. Pannell and the Lizards play host to the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Thursday, June 06, at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
