Lizards win in Gurenlian's farewell

GAME RECAP

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (August 5, 2017) – With both teams vying for a playoff spot, the Lizards beat the Hounds, 17-14 on Saturday night at James M. Shuart Stadium. 

Both New York and Charlotte needed Rochester to lose its game against Ohio to have a chance at the postseason, but the Rattlers pulled off a late one-goal win. 

A six-goal second quarter gave the Lizards an 11-5 lead at the half, but Charlotte responded with two goals in the third quarter and scored six of the first seven goals in the fourth quarter. 

Matt Gibson iced the game for New York, tallying two goals in a 40-second span in the fourth quarter. 

PLAYERS OF NOTE

Greg Gurenlian won 61 percent (20-of-33) of his faceoffs in the final game of his MLL career. Gurenlian, who announced his retirement prior to the season, finished his career with a record 2,024 faceoff wins. 

Rob Pannell had a game-high six points (3 goals, 3 assists). 

Matt Rambo (goal, two assists) recorded his second straight game with at least three points. 

John Haus led the Hounds with four goals and an assist.
