Hounds Attackman Matt Danowski Renews Contract for 2012 Season
BOSTON, Mass. (Wednesday, February 29, 2012) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Wednesday that Charlotte Hounds attackman
Matt Danowski has renewed his contract with the league for the 2012 season. This will mark his first season with the expansion Hounds, his fifth season with the league.
The Duke University alumnus was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft by the New Jersey Pride, where he played in ten games and registered 36 points (19 goals, 3 two-point goals, 14 assists) in his rookie campaign. He was also one of the few rookies to be named to an MLL All-Star Team.
Danowski played for the Long Island Lizards from 2009-2011 and saw the MLL playoffs in both 2009 and 2010. In 2010, the attackman was named the MLL Most Improved Player of the Year after finishing second in the league in both goals and points with 25 and 47 respectively. Last season, he played in all 12 games for the Lizards and led the league in two-point goals with seven. He finished fourth in the league in points with 41 (23 goals, seven two-point goals, 11 assists). He was named as an MLL All-Star for his third straight year and to the Great Atlantic All-MLL Team for his second straight year.
In a blockbuster off-season trade, the Charlotte Hounds surrendered their first overall selection in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft in exchange for Danowski and Lizards midfielder Stephen Berger. With that selection, the Lizards drafted Cornell University attackman Rob Pannell. In addition to the first pick, the Hounds surrendered MLL All-Star and former Boston Cannons attackman Max Quinzani, who was drafted by Charlotte in the second round (4
th overall selection) of the 2012 MLL Expansion Draft.
