Florida Launch at Ohio Machine

Game Notes: Florida – Ohio
Both teams are looking for a win to end the regular season on a high note. Ohio will need to play their best game of the season in order to claim a spot in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Playoffs. While the Florida Launch have been eliminated from playoff contention.
Last Time Out:
Florida: The Launch fought till the final seconds knowing a spot in the 2014 MLL Playoffs was on the line. Unfortunately, they were unable to come out on top, Florida lost to the Boston Cannons 16-15 last Saturday at Harvard Stadium.
Ohio: It was another close game on the road for the Machine, but Ohio was able to defeat the Rochester Rattlers 17-15 at Sahlen’s Stadium last Saturday night and stay alive in the playoff hunt.
The Heavy Duty Machine Defense: Dana Wilber, Chad Wiedmaier, Steve Waldeck, Max Schmidt, Brian Farrell, and Greg Bice are the Machine long stick defensemen who hold down the fort. Currently, the Machine are ranked 3
rd in the League for best penalty kill. The Launch will have to come out with a bang in order to beat this defense this Saturday night at Selby Stadium.
Breaking Records and Just Getting Started: Florida rookie attackman Kieran McArdle recorded his 31
st goal of the season against the Boston Cannons last Saturday, which broke the record for goals by a rookie in a season held by Kevin Huntley since 2008. He was also named Cascade Rookie of the Week for his performance. He is now also tied in the race for points set by a rookie, a record he could break this weekend. Due to McArdle’s remarkable rookie season he is one of the contenders for this year’s Cascade Rookie of the Year Award.

Players to Watch:
Florida: Casey Powell tallied 8 points against the Boston Canons with 4 goals and 4 assists.Steven Brooks finished with 3 goals and 1 assist. David Earl and attackman Kevin Cunningham each had 2 goals and 1 assist.
Ohio: Marcus Holman was dominant on offense last Saturday night against the Rochester Rattlers. He tallied 6 goals and 2 assists. His offensive contribution earned him Coca-Cola Player of the Game as well as Warrior Offensive Player of the Week. Attackman Steele Stanwick is a dangerous feeder from behind the cage, but last Saturday night he netted 4 goals himself and recorded 2 assists. Midfielder Kevin Cooper finished the night with 2 goals and 2 assists.
Florida: Casey Powell continues to lead the team and the League in points with 62. Rookie attackman Kieran McArdle leads in goals (31), followed by Casey Powell (29). Midfielder and faceoff specialist Christopher Mattes leads the Launch in groundballs with 87.
Ohio: Peter Baum and Marcus Holman both lead the team in points with 46 and goals with 33. Followed by Schuss and Harrison, who have netted 27 and 26 goals. Attackman Steele Stanwick leads the Machine in assists with 23. Faceoff specialist Robert Dattilo leads the Machine in groundballs with 44, followed by faceoff specialist Eric O’Brien with 39.
2014 Season Series:
The two teams last met at FAU Stadium on May 10, where the Florida Launch defeated the Machine 10-9.
· If the Machine win this Saturday’s matchup against the Florida Launch, it will be Ohio’s first-ever playoff appearance.
· Ohio has been on a four-game winning streak since July 4, 2014.
· Even though the Florida Launch are out of playoff contention, they do have all the power to ruin Ohio’s playoff dreams since the Machine need a win-to-get-in.
