Skills Competition Recap

March 18, 2016
The Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game Skills Competitions are one of the only times professional lacrosse players have a chance to shine individually—and shine they did. Hounds rookie Mike Sawyer won the Fastest Shot Contest, Outlaws Goaltender Jesse Schwartzman the Long Distance Accuracy Competition and Cannons Midfielder Kevin Buchanan the Freestyle Competition.

Charlotte's Mike Sawyer, Rochester's Mike Manley, Chesapeake' Steven Brooks, Denver's Jeremy Sieverts and Ohio's Kyle Hartzel participated in the 2013 MLL Fastest Shot Competition. Manley ripped a 110 mph shot, Brooks a 107 mph shot, Sieverts a 98 mph shot, Hartzel a 109 mph shot and Sawyer a 114 mph shot, winning him the 2013 Fastest Shot Competition and setting a new world record.

The Long Distance Accuracy Competition, which is new this year, followed, with Denver's Chris Bocklet, Hamilton's Brodie Merrill, Charlotte's Ryan Flanagan, Denver's Jesse Schwartzman and Chesapeake's Kip Turner participating. Eventually, it was Outlaws' Goalie Jesse Schwartzman who took home the crown for the first ever Long Distance Accuracy Competition.

The final skills competition event was the Freestyle Competition with Boston's Kevin Buchanan, New York's Rob Pannell, Hamilton's Brett Queener, and Boston's Mike Stone participating. Kevin Buchanan won the event, with his skeet shooting goal with help from teammate Mike Stone. Check out some of the best freestyle attempts below.

The 2013 All-Star Game Presented by Moe's Southwest Grill ended with Team Supernova defeating Team Eclipse 24-15, and Hamilton's Kevin Crowley winning Game MVP Honors.
