Ty Thompson scores OT winner for Rattlers

COLUMBUS, Ohio
- In the first ever game at Fortress Obetz, the Rochester Rattlers spoiled the Ohio Machine's housewarming party with a 12-11 overtime victory, their first win of the season. Ty Thompson (2 goals) scored the game-winning goal 11:04 into the overtime period. Jordan Wolf led all scorers with five goals and two assists, and he scored the game-tying goal with just 11 seconds left on the clock in regulation. 

In the First Half

Rochester jumped to an early lead but Jake Bernhardt answered notching a tally at 8:12 to tie the game 1-1. Rochester would then go on a two-goal streak before Mark Cockerton used his Offensive Player of the week momentum to notch a goal with 1:44 left in the First Quarter.  The Machine went man-up and Peter Baum scored with 56 seconds left in the opening quarter.  Baum scored again off a sharp shot to tie the game at 10:25 in the second.  For the second week in a row, the Machine was able to overcome an early 4-1 deficit. Mike Birney scored his first Major League Lacrosse goal with 8:27 left on the clock in the first half. Kevin Cunningham scored for Ohio at 5:33 left in the second and Mark Cockerton notched a tally at 1:46, Ohio went into the locker room with a 7-6 advantage.

In the Third Quarter

The Machine went on the penalty kill to start the third. Scott Rogers shut the door and Ohio went down the other end where Patrick Kelly opened up the second half scoring at 12:59 to make it 8-6.  Rattlers answered with some offensive power of their own when they scored two straight to tie it right back up, 8-8.  Both teams had some scoring opportunities throughout the half but it was a battle of the defenses, with seven minutes of no goals. But all that would end when Patrick kelly scored his second of the night at 2:15 in the third Rochester came back to tie the game at 1:49 in the third. The quarter would end in a 9-9 tie.

In the Fourth Quarter

It was goalie vs goalie battle for five minutes to start the fourth quarter until Rochester snagged a snipe at 10:01 in the fourth. Mark Cockerton would snipe his third of the evening at 6:38 in the fourth to make the score a 10-10 tie. Mark Cockerton scored his fourth goal with 1:03 on the clock to give the Machine its late 11-10 lead.  Ohio tried to hold possession as long as they could after the Puskuldjian faceoff win.  Rochester forced a turnover and scored with 11.5 seconds to send the game into sudden-death.  

Overtime

Ohio came up empty on its first possession.  Ohio suffered a penalty which the team killed off.  Both teams exchanged some empty possessions.  It wasn’t until a turnover by the Machine that led to the Rochester goal with 3:56 left in the overtime period.  The Rattlers won 12-11 getting its first win of the season.  The Machine received their first loss of the season.  Mark Cockerton ends the game with four goals and Rodgers had seven saves.
