Week 10 Playoff Scenarios

March 17, 2016
Through nine weeks of MLL play, nothing has been set in the chase towards Championship Weekend that will take place at Harvard Stadium in Boston, Mass. on August 25 and 26. Competitive balance has been the theme of this season as each team has shown the capability to beat any opponent in the league.

The Chesapeake Bayhawks (7-2) currently lead the way but have not clinched a playoff berth and will not have the opportunity to do so this week. Boston and Denver follow just behind Chesapeake with 6-3 records but the Cannons control the #2 seed by virtue of their head-to-head tiebreaker over the Outlaws.

The Rochester Rattlers (5-4) round out the current playoff picture. Rochester is the #4 seed ahead of Long Island (5-4) based on a head-to-head tiebreaker, 2-0, over the Lizards. However, Long Island has the opportunity to climb into a playoff position with a victory against the Cannons on Saturday.

The Hounds (3-6) and the Nationals (2-6) are in difficult positions as the sixth and seventh place teams in the standings but Championship Weekend is still within reach for both franchises.

Although no team can clinch a playoff berth this week, the last-place Ohio Machine (1-7) can be eliminated from playoff contention this week if:

  • Ohio loses both games against Hamilton this weekend
              AND

  • Rochester OR Long Island win this week
With five weeks remaining, each team is alive in the playoff hunt. As a reminder, the standings change each week as do the tie-breakers. Playoff scenarios from one week are not necessarily the same in future weeks.
