New York - Hamilton
The New York Lizards return to Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island in New York City Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. as they hope to upset the Hamilton Nationals. The game will be broadcast regionally and live on ESPN3.com.
The Lizards are looking to work their way back to a .500 record after dropping the last two contests, while Hamilton hopes to recover after receiving their first loss of the season at the hands of the Denver Outlaws June 8.
The Lizards were handed a 21-8 loss from the Chesapeake Bayhawks on June 6. Despite 15 saves from 2012 Warrior Goalie of the Year Drew Adams, the Lizards defense struggled for the second week in a row. Offensively, the Lizards were led by Tommy Palasek who had three goals and a helper. Palasek was aided by Mark Matthews who recorded two goals and one assist. The most consistent player for the Lizards has been Greg Gurenlian who has won 100 of 154 faceoffs, including winning 18 of 21 in the recent loss.
The Lizards will count on Max Seibald to reignite the offensive spark with rookie and former Cornell teammate Rob Pannell. The Lizards will also rely on rookie Jo-Jo Marasco to add to the offense.
The Nationals were forced into second place by the Outlaws after a 22-9 loss. The Nationals were led by second place point leader Kevin Crowley, who recorded four goals. Offense was also sparked by rookie and Army graduate Garrett Thul who recorded three goals in his MLL debut.
The Nationals have already taken the first game against Lizards this season with a 12-11 win. The Lizards were led by Matt Gibson who recorded two goals and three assists and were anchored defensively by Drew Adams with 14 saves. The Nationals were led by John Austin who had a two point goal to start the fourth quarter and recorded an assist and Kevin Crowley who only had an assist until scoring a game winning two point goal with 45 seconds left in the game.
Next, the Lizards will travel to Boston to try to win their second game this season against the Cannons Friday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. The Nationals will return home to play their first contest against the Rochester Rattlers June 22 at 7:00 p.m.
