Both teams came out of the gate strong, capitalizing on four goals apiece in the first quarter. Cummings got the ball rolling 46 seconds into the game, scoring on a newly acquired Joe Resetarits feed. Cummings finished the first quarter with a hat trick, including an around-the-world highlight reel goal. Kyle Hartzell tallied Ohio's fourth goal of the quarter making his presence known in the transition game. Rochester saw production from Ned Crotty, Steven Boyle, Rob Rotanz, and John Ranagan. Goaltender John Galloway kept Rochester in the game, recording a staggering 9 saves in the first 15 minutes of play.
Ohio continued their aggressive play in the second quarter and headed into halftime leading Rochester 9-7. The Machine welcomed midfielder Connor Martin back from injury, who opened the second quarter with a goal-line extended airborne score. Marcus Holman gave the home team a two goal lead off a feed from Hartzell in transition. Midfielder Matt Striebel answered for the Rattlers, followed by Martin's second goal of the quarter. Striebel then nailed a two-pointer to tie up the game midway through the second. Ohio finished out the quarter with two tallies, garnering one from attackman Logan Schuss and another from Cummings.
The second half cooled down as only two goals were scored in the third quarter. Ranagan scored on a solid north-south drive to cut the lead to one, before Martin answered with his third of the night, to maintain Ohio's two point lead heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Rochester opened the fourth with two consecutive tallies, cutting the Machine's lead to one. Mike Leveille opened the scoring, and Crotty followed with a picture perfect wrap-around goal. Ohio proved to be too much, stringing together a three goal run to put the home team up by four, their largest margin of the night. Schuss and Cummings added a goal apiece to their resumes, while midfielder Chazz Woodson grabbed one as the shot clock wound down.
Ohio next travels to Denver, to face the 7-0 Outlaws on Saturday June 22 at 8PM (ET). The Rattlers will travel to sunny Boca Raton, FL to square off against the Hamilton Nationals at Florida Atlantic University [FAU] Stadium. That game will be played Saturday June 22 at 7PM (ET).
