Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced the weekly award winners for week 8 of the 2013 season, which concluded on June 23. The winners are chosen every week by the League, and are based on outstanding in-game achievements. Charlotte's Matt Danowski scored his way to Warrior Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Hamilton's Tucker Durkin earned himself Warrior Defensive Player of the Week. Boston's Will Manny took home Cascade Rookie of the Week accolades.
Danowski helped lead the Hounds to a 16-15 overtime win against the Chesapeake Bayhawks in front of their home crowd on Saturday night. The captain's seven points came in the second half of play, outscoring Chesapeake 9-5 during that time. Danowski opened the half with a goal, and then rifled in two 2-point goals to fuel Charlotte's third quarter comeback. He added a goal in the fourth quarter, and was credited with the assist to
Ryan Young's overtime winning tally. The seventh year veteran improved his season point total to 25, currently tied for sixth place among MLL point leaders. His 4.16 points per game is nothing short of impressive, and he will look to continue his success as Charlotte travels to face the undefeated Denver Outlaws this weekend. This game will be played at 9 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network beginning at 10 p.m. (ET).
Durkin helped anchor the Hamilton Nationals' defense in a 17-11 convincing win over the Rochester Rattlers in Boca Raton, FL. The rookie and 2013 Tewaaraton Award nominee dominated the crease, keeping opponents far away from Hamilton's goalie
Brett Queener. Durkin and the rest of the defense limited the Rattlers to only six goals throughout the first three quarters. The first year player has scooped up nine ground balls this season, and will look to continue his play against offensive savvy Chesapeake this Saturday. This match-up will be broadcast live on YouTube at 7 p.m. (ET).
Manny delivered a five point performance in Boston's 16-12 decision over the New York Lizards on Friday night. The attackman tallied one goal and four assists, distributing one helper per quarter. His productive outing doubled his previous point total, and currently sits sixth on the Cannons' leaderboard with 10 points. Manny leads the Cannons' leaderboard with a .429 shooting percentage, scoring six goals on 14 shots. The rookie has also grabbed six ground balls this season. Manny and the Cannons travel to Ohio to face the Machine this Saturday, June 29, with game time set for 7:30 p.m. (ET). ESPN3 will broadcast this game live, check local listings for more ways to watch.
