Today, Major League Lacrosse announced Supernova and Eclipse as the new names for the 2013 All-Star teams. These team names will be featured in the 2013 MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill on Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in Charlotte, NC. Fans can watch as the Supernova take on the Eclipse, live on ESPN2.
This season MLL held a contest to have the biggest fans in the League, captain their own All-Star team, thus seeking new All-Star team names. These names were chosen to play to the All-
, inspired by the idea that the best athletes and stars of the League will be participating. In past years the teams have been named according to the game’s structure, the Old School versus the Young Guns. The Young Guns were representative of the rookies and younger players facing off against the Old School, the veterans of the League. This was the case in 2005, 2009, and last year, in 2012.
The 38 players named to this season’s game will receive their team assignments on the eve of the All-Star Game, as chosen by the Ultimate Fan Fantasy winners, Frank Ranfone, the Supernova captain, and Cameron MacKenzie, the Eclipse captain. In a playground-style selection process, each participant will select his team for the next day’s game.
In conjunction with the release of the 2013 All-Star jerseys, the Supernova will dress in the white and blue jerseys, while The Eclipse will wear the black and gold. The jerseys, designed by Warrior, will be auctioned off afterwards with all proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the official Charity of the 2013 All-Star Game.
The 2013 All-Star Game allows the world’s top lacrosse talent to all play on the same field, putting on a spectacular show in the annual exhibition game.
