Peter Baum to Join Machine in 2014

Ohio Machine midfielder and 2012 Tewaaraton Award winner Peter Baum has signed his Major League Lacrosse (MLL) contract and will join the Machine for the 2014 season, Machine President & General Manager John Algie announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

The Machine selected Baum with the first overall pick in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft.

“We are very happy to welcome Peter to the Machine organization,” Algie said. “During his career at Colgate, Peter was the best player in college lacrosse. His combination of physical tools, vision and playmaking ability are the traits we look for in our players, and we are excited to add a player of Peter’s caliber to our roster.”

During 2013, Baum helped grow the sport of lacrosse on the West Coast by coaching at clinics and camps on the grassroots level with Adrenaline Lacrosse and as an Adrenaline Athlete. Baum also was the leading scorer on the Adrenaline LXM PRO Tour. Last week, MLL announced a partnership with Adrenaline Lacrosse to become the exclusive sideline hat, shooting shirt and non-exclusive sock provider to the MLL. As part of that partnership, LXM PRO players will be allowed to participate in MLL, and MLL players will be allowed to participate in the LXM PRO Tour. Baum is also a sponsored athlete of STX, which became an Official Equipment Partner to MLL last week.

“I could not be more excited to begin my MLL career with the Ohio Machine,” Baum said. “They are one of the most exciting franchises in the league to me, and are a perfect fit for my desire to help spread the game to non-traditional lacrosse markets. The team has a young roster that is loaded with exciting talent, and I am really looking forward to getting into training camp and doing my best to make an immediate impact.”

Baum, a native of Portland, Oregon, played college lacrosse at Colgate University, where in 2012 he became the first Colgate, Patriot League, and West Coast born player to win the prestigious Tewaaraton Award as the nation’s top player. Baum finished his collegiate career as Colgate’s all-time leader in points, 225, and goals, 164. He also holds the Patriot League all-time record for goals scored. During each of his four years at Colgate, Baum led the team in goals and led the team in points his final three seasons.

Full season tickets for the Machine’s 2014 season are now on sale and range from General Admission at $92 to a Field Level Box at $2,400 and include seven regular season home games plus a 2014 MLL playoff game. Information on 2014 season tickets can be found at
